Before it became the multi-branch success story it is today, Olive Street Food Café started small in Mangalore - an unassuming little joint known for its unbeatable prices, quick bites, and crowd-pulling energy. It wasn’t fancy, it wasn’t quiet, but it was one of those places where the food spoke louder than anything else. The first branch had barely any seating, yet was always full, the kind of spot where your best bet was to order in and enjoy your meal at home. But what truly set Olive apart wasn’t just affordability, it was how consistently fun and flavour-packed the food turned out to be.
Even now, years later, that original spirit of affordable indulgence still defines the brand - a rare mix of familiarity, street-style nostalgia, and reliable taste.
This burger was the gateway dish - the reason Olive Street built such a cult following. A juicy, tender chicken patty layered with cheese and fresh produce, all packed into a soft bun. At under ₹100, it’s almost impossible to believe how satisfying this burger can be. Simple, well-balanced, and done right.
Easily one of the most playful dishes on the menu. A flaky porota roll filled with chicken and crushed Lays chips for crunch - chaotic, indulgent, and oddly comforting. The salt level could’ve been toned down a bit, but flavour-wise, it hit all the right notes.
This one took a milder route. The seasoning leaned subtle, allowing the texture of the meat and porota to stand out more than any spice. While the filling felt a bit too similar to the Lays mix, it still made for a decent, filling roll.
A surprise favourite. The mix of spiced chicken, a soft omelette, and that perfectly crisped porota made for a wholesome, comforting bite. The textures worked beautifully together - chewy, soft, and slightly smoky from the grill. Definitely one to order again.
Creamy, rich, and generously loaded with diced chicken - this sandwich is an Olive classic. The newer version includes a mint layer, which adds a cooling contrast, though I personally prefer the older, more straightforward version. Either way, it’s a crowd-pleaser.
One of their most popular desserts - thick, creamy, and unapologetically sweet. It’s indulgence in a glass, but also a sugar overload if you’ve already had a heavy meal.
My top pick among their shakes - a creative mix of dry prunes, mango, and vanilla ice cream that just works. It’s thick, smooth, and bursting with flavour, a brilliant fusion that leaves you wanting another sip.
A refreshing end to the meal, though slightly overwhelming after such a rich spread. The flavours are clean and cool, but it’s best saved for a lighter meal.
Olive Street Food Café may have started as a humble Mangalore hangout, but it has since grown into a brand that people across cities swear by. The food remains honest, bold, and packed with flavour — street-style staples made approachable and affordable. Sure, it’s not perfect, but that’s part of its charm. Olive’s rise from a single buzzing café to a multi-branch favourite just goes to show that sometimes, good food at great prices really is all you need.
